BRP Malapascua (PGM-4403)

Oceanic Defense Technologies (ODT), a Pacific Horizon Division presents BRP Malapascua for Origins The BRP Malapascua (PGM-4403) is the lead ship of the Malapascua-class Fast Attack Craft (Missile), designed and constructed by Oceanic Defense Technologies (ODT), the defense arm of Pacific Horizon Industries Limited (PHIL). Her design began with the proven hull form of the Parola-class Multi-Role Response Vessels of the Philippine Coast Guard, known for their stability and endurance in tropical and littoral waters. ODT engineers took that platform and transformed it into a fully militarized fast attack craft: reinforced bulkheads, modular combat stations, and heavy weapon foundations made the design suitable for naval combat rather than constabulary patrols. Initially, the ship was slated for Philippine Coast Guard service, envisioned as a “super-cutter” with more firepower than any vessel in their fleet. But as piracy, raider incursions, and insurgent activity intensified in the Sawyer Islands, defense planners recognized the need for a permanent and combat-capable presence. The decision was made to commission Malapascua into the Philippine Navy instead. Design and Armament While based on the Parola-class frame, the Malapascua-class represents a fundamental shift from patrol cutter to littoral strike craft. Hull and Dimensions: Length: 44.5 m Beam: 7.5 m Displacement: ~320 t Shallow draft allows her to operate close to island coasts and reefs. Improved stabilization and shock-resistant compartments built for combat conditions. Propulsion: 6 high-performance diesel engines delivering over 3,400 shp. Top speed: 35+ knots (optimized for pursuit and coastal strike). Range: 1,500 nautical miles, enabling extended patrols in Sawyer waters. Weapons Fit: 1× 76 mm stabilized naval autocannon on the bow for surface and limited air defense. 1× CIWS bow mount, optimized for missile, drone, and fast-boat interception. 8× JM MK 3 Mod 1 anti-ship missile canisters (4 twin launchers, stern deck) for precision strike. 2× 12.7 mm weapon stations for close defense and asymmetric threats. Deck mounts prewired for man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS) during special deployments. Combat Systems: Jarrmarine's AFCS JM/SPG 25 targeting suite for precise targeting at short to long range engagements Encrypted satellite comms via PHIL’s PacificNet network, allowing real-time updates from Manila or allied commands. Deployment to the Sawyer Islands The Sawyer Republic, a newly established nation, was struggling to secure its waters against piracy and raider activity. Civilian vessels with Filipino crews were being targeted by the Bungelling Raiders, destabilizing shipping routes vital to both the Republic and Manila’s economic interests. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Philippines deployed BRP Malapascua (PGM-4403) to Sawyer waters as part of Task Group Bantay Dagat (Sea Guard). She was not alone—her sister ship from the Philippine Coast Guard, BRP Sindangan (MRRV-4407), was also dispatched. While Sindangan continued in her role as a Coast Guard vessel dedicated to law enforcement, search and rescue, and constabulary patrol as well as being a temporary presence rotating out of Sawyer waters with other PCG ships. Malapascua served as a frontline naval combatant tasked with convoy escort, maritime security, and anti-surface strike missions, while maintaining a permanent deterrent presence in Sawyer waters and supporting the Sawyer Republic t Her mission profile included: Escorting Filipino merchant and fishing convoys through high-risk areas. Conducting armed patrols to deter piracy and shadow Raider motherships. Responding rapidly to distress signals from local and Filipino civilian ships. Coordinating with Sawyer Coast Guard and allied naval forces for joint operations.
