YB-13 - prototype fighter
Introduction
The YB-13 is an AS-10 bomber aircraft converted into a fighter, developed under license from kulupu Ilosin. (engl. the Neosys Design Bureau)
History
New specification
The new specification was for a fighter aircraft that could carry the weight of the AS-10's maximum bomb load in air to air armament, with new fire control for attacking air targets.
It was decided by lead engineer jan Japawi that this was to be done by rebuilding the airframe to fit more armament on stations 2/3.
An AS-10A was purchased (T/N NE-U5E) and modified to meet the specification in this way. However, the YB-10 prototype was determined to not meet the operational requirements of the program, and work on a new proposal was started. The new proposal was named YB-13.
Another AS-10A was purchased (T/N NE-BYB) and conversion was already started by the engineers without drafting a formal specification. The wingbox was extended and engine mountings removed. It was then decided that the aircraft was to have two engines, and a spare was installed as the 2nd engine. A new fuselage was then built and systems installed.
This proposal is now being presented to you.
Maintenance information
Parts commonality with AS-10A is 90% and AS-10 B/C is 60%. Other parts are from AS-4 B/N2 and NSR1. (prototype T/N KU-OJA)
The AS-10A's undercarriage and cockpit panels are used. (as purchased)
Sight is lifted from AS-10C and TCR is same as AS-10 C/D spec. (T/N KU-4NS)
The fire control radar is lifted from the NSR1 prototype. (prototype T/N KU-OJA)
The self protection suite is lifted from AS-10B according to AS-6B mixed spec. (prototype T/N KU-2NS)
The HUD visualizer lifted from AS-4N2. (prototype B/N 7201)
