[b]Q: Why make this mod?[/b]
A: [b]I wanted a more in‑game, actually functional funeral ritual[/b] instead of a quick pretend-makeshift one. It adds way more immersion. I mean, wouldn’t you want a funeral for the thrumbo that died in battle saving your entire colony? I sure do.
[b]Q: How did you make it?[/b]
A: [b]I used the funeral framework from Alpha Memes’ GitHub as a base.[/b] I stripped out scripts and other bits that weren’t needed, then realized the framework in its original state wasn’t going to fully work with what I wanted. So I rewrote the funeral framework code to fit this mod’s idea. That also cleared up a bunch of hidden errors and letter text issues from older updates (of my mod).
[b]Q: Doesn’t Alpha Memes already do this? Should I use this instead of Alpha Memes?[/b]
A-1: Within Alpha Memes’ XML and C# code, there’s a funeral framework that supports multiple types of funerals, including animal funerals. They also patch the base Ideology funeral ritual so that only bonded and venerated animals can get funerals. This mod expands on that. It removes that patch, adds its own, and uses a customized version of the funeral framework instead.
A-2: The defaults are the same, but here’s where it changes things: there are mod settings. In basic mode, you can choose between: all animals, named animals, venerated animals, and animals bonded with colonists. In advanced mode, you can go deeper and customize things per animal, per category/group. Both Alpha Memes and Paws To Rest can be used together. From testing and general use, they don’t conflict or break anything. [b]There’s no “Alpha Memes over Paws To Rest” or “Paws To Rest over Alpha Memes” situation here; it’s more about what you want.[/b]
A-3: If you just want a RimWorld mod that adds animal funerals, this mod is probably the better pick, since it does what Alpha Memes does in that area but with stronger customization. If you’re fine with only venerated and bonded animals getting funerals and you also want everything else Alpha Memes offers, you can just run that. [b]Or you can run both and use each for what they’re good at.[/b]
A-4: [b]Think of Paws To Rest as an expanded, standalone take on Alpha Memes’ animal funeral framework.[/b]
[b]Q: After the most recent update, I got an error. Can you help?[/b]
A-1: [b]If you get errors after an update, please drop your logs and details in the comments[/b] so they can be checked and fixed. A scenario like this was playtested, so there’s a decent chance this will solve it: the config saveData structure was changed a bit.
A-2: To stop the error, open this mod’s settings, toggle anything on or off (just change a setting), then close the settings window. That should rewrite and fix the config saveData. It’s also a nice excuse to poke around the new mod settings. [b]If that doesn’t fix it, mention the exact issue in the comments.[/b]
[b]Q: What should I do first?[/b]
A: Once you load up the mod, go straight into the mod settings and customize it to match how you want to handle animal funerals. After that, just play with your usual modlist and see how it feels in your run.
