History (FICTIONAL/NOT A REAL SHIP) The MV Cavana may look odd for a ship of her type and for good reason. She was Built in 1940 as a Armed Patrol boat under the name USS Nova. She spent most of that career patroling the eastern coast off New York Harbor. Earned 2 battle stars and was eventually retired in 1952. She was scheduled to be scrapped the year after, however an unknown buyer bought her for $1.2M. She was converted to a fishing trawler and crab boat. Her 4 boilers were removed and her steam engine was replaced with a turbo diesel Engine. Most of her Superstructure is still the same as it was back in 1940 with the addition of two additional spotlights added on the port and Starboard railing near the bridge, and two electric cranes were installed on the aft deck on either side with the Starboard crane being overhauled to accomodate dragging a fishing net. Her lifeboats were considered too outdated and were removed, none were placed to replace them (so sail at your own risk). Her design was unique as well wither deep draft she could sit low in the water which made her harder to spot and would give her an oportunity to escape any enemy surface engagement that may prove fatal. her aft deck was designed to "drag" meaning it could allow water to flood the aft deck to reduce drag at high speeds (even though it proved unnoticeable) as her top speed (with her diesel engine) is only 11 Knots. During a Fishing Trip in late 1986 her net got snagged on an underwater obstruction ripping the cables from her crane, damaging the crane to non operable. Her original owner who originally bought her for the 1.2M passed in 1998 leaving the Cavana ownerless. Ater being restored and looking like new shes ready for her next fishing trip. Due to complications her Starboard Crane remains inoperable. Motor on port Crab Pot crane doesnt like to stop (lever needs manually stopped). Enjoy.
