HMS north wood was built in london in 1912 as the 3rd ship in the victoria class. As the U-boats were a main threat in the great war she was taken out of cargo service in 1917 and turned into a war ship. It was equiped with 6 depth charge launchers and she set sail in late 1917. In early 1918 she damaged the sub UB-400, but was torpedoed itself. She was returning to port for repairs when she struck a mine, sinking her.
