HDMS Fyn - Small Danish Steam Frigate
HDMS Fyn
Accepted into the danish navy in 1861, in 1864 she sank a un-named Austrian Steam frigate before returning to port, Later that month she set out again where this time she bombarded a fort. After the Second Schleswig War she kinda just sat around in the danish fleet until 1915 when her 3 main masts were put into storage and 2 new large masts with a cable between them were fitted on her, She became a wireless platform until 1921, when those were removed, and she was turned into a barrack ship, in 1940 she set steam for sweden as she fled the invasion of denmark. In 1945 she sailed back to denmark. Where she was put back into use as a Barracks ship, Before her original masts were fitted in 1949, and she was turned into a Parade ship, serving in the danish navy under this role until 1979 when she was retired and bought to be turned into a museum, Sadly she sank in port after she caught fire, She was raised and her fire damaged hull now sits on dry land in a danish maritime museum.
