This is my first fully functioning creation so let me know if there is anything I can improve about the creation apart from the paint scheme since it was all I could think of.
This boat is designed for the start of the Career Mode of Stormworks. It is $25,500 in game so it can be acquired shortly after the tutorial.
Important Note:
- The boat does rest quite low in the water. Water can flood the main cabin or the engines if the hatches are left open so be careful.
- There is a 2 second delay to enabling and disabling the hydrofoil. This is from a wind sensor system I attempted to implement. This is mentioned in further detain below.
Hydrofoil Mechanism
The mechanism works with fins controlled by an altimeter at each corner. There are lots of functions within the hull as they are used to dampen the effect of the fins. This makes it very hard to flip if used properly. The only two ways I have got it to flip is if the hydrofoil is activated while turning sharply and when the wind is too strong for the hydrofoil. So try to avoid doing this if you want to prevent capsizing. It is possible to flip this boat but it is quite hard.
The top speed of the boat without the hydrofoil is around 45 mph. The top speed with the hydrofoil is around 70 mph and with significantly increased fuel efficiency.
The front hydrofoil wing is always enabled as it makes it easier for the boat to achieve planing which reduces drag and increases top speed.
I attempted to make a condition where the hydrofoil would automatically disable if the waves got too big (based on the wind). The current method doesn't fully work as intended as the speed of the boat effects the wind detected by the wind sensor. I am unsure how to make the system work fully as intended.
Range
- Without the hydrofoil, the range is +200km.
- With the hydrofoil, the range is well over 1,000km.
This boat uses two V12 small modular engines which each drive two small propellers. The engines are limited to 20 rps but they can be set to 25 rps with no issues except higher fuel consumption. I haven't tested higher rps but it can likely go to 30+ as the engines get to around 40 Celsius.
Each engine has a separate fuel tank holding around 900l of diesel. They can be filled and emptied using the fluid hose connectors on the sides of the boat. There is a gauge showing the current level of the fuel tank.
Rest of the boat
- The front of the boat contains 3 beds to sleep in.
- The main cabin has the drivers seat and 10 padded seats for passengers.
- Back platform for increased space.
- Exterior lights controlled by toggle button by driver's seat.
- Interior lights are automatic.
- Plenty of equipment along the back of the boat. All equipment I thought was needed for the start is there. No outfits / clothing.
Feel free to make improvements to the boat. If you post your version of the boat, please reference this as the original boat with my steam name so other people can find it.
