MBT-70

The MBT-70 was a failed experiment tank from america and germany, the mbt was originally made for germany to destroy the russian mbts like the T-64 and T-62s, this thing was in production in 1963 until it was canceled in 1971 because of some issues, the unreliable 152mm gun/missile system because the MGM-51 Shillelagh missile didnt worked well because of the recoil and it was inaccurate, the driver disorientation from the turret capsule (mostly causing the driver to puke), excessive weight that strained infrastructure, the cost was extremely high reaching $1 million. about the germans, no they didnt accept it because West Germany abandoned the project in 1969 due to escalating costs like i said, and significant disagreements with the United States over design and production, leading the country to develop the Leopard 2 independently. so the tank was scrapped and unfinished leaving the prototype only abandoned. but if it was succesful, they have to replacing the 152mm gun with a more practical 120mm gun like the M103 and dispensing with ATGMs to reduce weight and complexity, improving its limited armor protection by adding composite and spaced armor, relocating the driver from the turret to a traditional hull position for better situational awareness and space, and redesigning the hull and engine deck for a lower profile and better overall weight distribution. the first prototype was tested in 1968 by the way. so the americans made a failed experiment that the germans though the tank would be succesful and ill make the KPZ-70 next in: *who knows when* thats all :)
