Tideflayer Patrol Hydrofoil
A light duty muscle boat with hydrofoil capability.
Conceptualized by HADREC as somewhat of a show piece. A small boat with a big engine, created to zip around, look sick, and do odd jobs while achieving a good balance of power and fuel efficiency. With a slender profile, solid speed and range, and a radar system, the Tideflayer has found it's groove in the patrol and reconnaissance role. In developing the Tideflayer, HADREC found that the vessel would over-speed and leap out of the water due to the high torque of the engine and the lift provided by the hydrofoils, resulting in midair rolling and crash landings. This was an undesirable side effect at first, but with some reasoning, HADREC discerned that the speed at which the vessel leaped out of the water was a speed at which additional stabilizers would be useful in correcting midair alignment, making landings safe, and that the ability for the vessel to leave the water entirely would be a desirable behavior to reduce fuel costs. To exploit these findings, they added new control surfaces to keep the vessel stable both in and out of water, and re-engineered the pontoons to break apart the surface tension of the water when landing to smooth out the transition between gliding and floating. This behavior came to be known internally as "Skipping" and would go on to influence some of HADREC's other designs.
No operational briefing for this one; It's a pretty simple, self explanatory design.
Update 1: Routed winch through a pulley in the rear of the vessel to balance the counter-force of towed vessels, improving towing behavior.
