PT 433 Tempest Rim
History
C11 Torpedo Boat Class
The C11-class torpedo boats were among the U.S. Navy’s first attempts at large, fast, and long-ranged patrol craft after the First World War. Designed in 1922, they combined wood-and-steel construction with experimental electric “silent drive” motors that allowed for stealthy approaches at low speed. Armed with twin 30mm cannons, a twin .50 caliber mount, and two steer-to-aim torpedoes, they were versatile ships suited for patrol, harassment, and coastal defense. At full speed, the boats reached 34 knots, though handling became dangerous in rough seas.
Each vessel required a crew of around 20 for peak combat performance, but peacetime budget cuts often reduced this to fewer than half, leaving many mothballed or under-crewed by the mid-1930s. Still, when war erupted in 1941 with the Japanese offensives against Hawaii and Alaska, the C11s were pressed back into service or ripped from their patrol duties. Their lack of armour meant they were vulnerable even to machine-gun fire, yet they earned a reputation for daring raids and flexibility. C11s were used in patrol sweeps, infiltration runs, search-and-rescue missions, anti-air defense screens, and even to ferry supplies to isolated garrisons. In rare cases, their torpedoes dealt devastating blows — one under-crewed vessel infamously sank a Japanese heavy cruiser during the second day of the Hawaiian offensive before being lost with all hands.
PT 433 USS Tempest Rim
The USS Tempest Rim was stationed in Hawaii at the outbreak of hostilities in 1941. Fortuitously, the vessel had been fully fueled and stocked for a planned multi-day patrol on the eve of the Japanese attack, giving it an unusual edge in the chaotic opening days. Within hours of the invasion, Tempest Rim struck an unguarded Japanese supply group, sinking two merchant vessels and a converted fishing escort. After briefly returning to Hawaii, the crew realized the situation was untenable and escaped under cover of darkness, taking several high-ranking officials and valuable supplies aboard.
What followed was a harrowing two-and-a-half-week journey back to California. Maintaining strict radio silence, the boat skirted Japanese-controlled waters, advancing only at night and using its electric drive to reduce its wake. Against the odds, Tempest Rim reached the mainland intact, where it was celebrated as a symbol of early resistance. After overhauls at the Washington Navy Yard, the ship re-entered service in early 1942 and was deployed north to assist in the Aleutian campaign. There it performed convoy escorts, anti-submarine patrols, and night raids against Japanese supply lines.
In early 1943, however, Tempest Rim’s luck ran out. While transferring to the Alaskan theater after a second overhaul, it was intercepted by Japanese dive-bombers. A 500kg high-explosive bomb struck amidships, breaking the vessel in two. The entire crew of twenty were lost. Though its service life was brief, Tempest Rim’s daring patrols and legendary escape from Hawaii earned it a place of honour in naval memory.

Startup Procedure
Note: This vehicle has 3 engines. The first is a Generator and Starter engine. The second is the main engine and the Third is a Electric Motor. Buttons for interacting with these engines are clustered AROUND the entire engine blocks, its not all in one place!
[list]
[*] Starting Generator Engine: Main Switch -> Open Clutch -> Emergency Starter (Or Handcrank)
[*] Go around the engines and: Enable Radiators, Open Coolant Valves for the Generator Engine
[*] Then Enable Engine Master for Main Engine
[*] Go back to Generator Engine, Engage Clutch End 1 and Clutch End 2, this should jumpstart the Main Engine
[*] Set the telegraph to desired throttle (use the automatic switch to activate it from the helm position)
[*] Set desired gear in the gearbox, then increase clutch level to get the props moving
[*] Electic Motor Startup: Enable Electric Motor Propulsion -> Unlock Electric Motor Breaker Switch (And then throttle up)

Further Notes
- Boat is small, will not like massive waves and rough weather
- there is a slightly hidden easter egg
- Refueling is possible, just enable all the needed valves and pumps!
- The bilge pump is the generator engine as well, you connect the hoses to the affected Areas
About the Project
The Pacific Front is a Alternate History Project about the time from 1940s through to the 70s in a time of turmoil, war and desperation. It focuses on the countries around the pacific ocean, like the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, China and a lot more. All the the project vehicles are fictional in nature and have their own story, lore and design. The Projects creations have a tendency for high fidelity, decoration and multi crew operation.
