AFE Refrigerated Boxcar

Description Atlantic Fruit Express Refrigerated Boxcar (Reefer) originally built in 1928 for the Pacific Fruit Express service and rebuilt in 1948 before being transferred to the Northern Atlantic. Specs

Mass: 4,012 Blocks
Cost: $50,000
Internal Capacity: 9.5m x 2.75m x 2.75m
Additional The Pacific Fruit Express (PFE) was a refrigerator car company jointly owned and operated by Union Pacific and Southern Pacific. The service was founded in 1906 and at one point was the largest operator of refrigerator cars (otherwise known as ‘reefers’) in the world. Until as late as the 1970s, the PFE was operating ice cooled cars like the one recreated here, using ice bunkers on either end which were filled using hatches at the top of the cars. This boxcar was built before the “Cryo Cooler” component was added (yes that long ago) and as the contemporary cars were cooled using ice, I decided not to retrofit it (plus there is not any perishable cargo in game that requires cooling).
