LNER Class 91 Electric Locomotive BRELL

With roots in the 1970s with the APT-E and APT-P experimental trains, the Class 91s were built from 1988-1991 to aid the diesel HSTs on the ECML, London to Edinburgh. Originally the companion Mark 4 coaches were designed to tilt but the tilt was scrapped due to the lack of need. In 1993 the Railways Act was passed, privatising the rail network, and therefore Class 91s. The 91s were transferred from Intercity to GNER, who upgraded the interiors, and motors. GNER would operate until 2007 and would see two tragedies involving the 91s. In 2015, Virgin formed VTEC (Virgin Trains East Coast) but faces financial problems and eventually collapsed in 2018. The 91s were transfered to government ran LNER who kept the VTEC livery but with the "Virgin" covered by "LNER". Nowadays they are gradually being withdrawn, but LNER plans to keep several sets due to lack of replacement and the good condition of the 91s.
