♛ RimChess ♛
Because apparently surviving organ pirates, mad animals, and psychic ships wasn't intellectually stimulating enough...
Welcome to RimChess, where your colonists can finally put their "Intellectual 20" skill to good use by getting absolutely demolished by an AI in a game that's older than electricity. Nothing says "peak civilization" like two people arguing over wooden pieces while their base burns down around them.
🧠 What is this madness?
RimChess transforms your colony into the galaxy's most dangerous chess club. Watch as your brilliant colonists, who can craft bionic limbs and tame thrumbos, somehow struggle to understand why horses move in an L-shape. Features include:
• Pawn vs Pawns - Control your pawn to face other pawn in the intellegence competition
• Online Multiplayer Chess - Because local multiplayer wasn't humiliating enough
• ELO Rating System - Finally, a number that truly measures your worth as a human being
• Real-time Matchmaking - Get paired with opponents who will crush your dreams efficiently
• Chat System - Perfect for receiving advice you didn't ask for
• Death Match Mode - Where "checkmate" has... consequences ☠️
• AI Opponents - They scale with your Intelligence skill, so expect to lose regardless
⚠️ BETA WARNING ⚠️

This mod is currently in BETA! Not all features may work perfectly, and you might encounter bugs that are more frustrating than a pawn with food poisoning during a raid.
Found a bug? Please report it on this Steam Workshop page! Your suffering helps make the mod better for everyone else.

📚 How to Play (Because Reading Instructions is for Smart People)

Open the Architect Menu - You know, that thing you use to build walls that raiders ignore anyway

Search for "Rim chess table" - It's under Joy, because apparently intellectual suffering brings happiness

Build the table - Requires 50 wood and 15 steel (cheaper than therapy)

Select a pawn and right-click the table - Choose "Play chess..."

Pick your poison - Choose between different game modes listed below

🎮 Game Modes (Pick Your Preferred Method of Defeat)
🎯 Online Chess
Connect to the server and face opponents from across the rim. Features real-time matchmaking, ELO ratings, and the crushing realization that someone on another planet is better at chess than you.
♟️ Casual Game
For when you want to lose with dignity. No ELO changes, no pressure, just pure, unadulterated chess disappointment. Perfect for beginners who haven't yet learned to fear the game.
🏆 Ranked Game
The serious mode where your ELO rating goes to die. Every move matters, every mistake is permanent, and every victory is immediately followed by a loss that makes you question your life choices. Features:
• ELO rating system (400-3000+ range)
• Skill-based matchmaking
• Permanent record of your chess failures
• Rankings from "Learning" to "Grandmaster" (good luck with that last one)
💀 DEATH MATCH
⚠️ WARNING: EXTREME MODE ⚠️
The most brutal chess variant known to the rim. When you lose in Death Match mode, there are real consequences. Your pawn might suffer:
• Severe mood debuffs
• Injuries that reflect the psychological trauma
• Social penalties that last for days
• Other "educational experiences" that make regular chess losses seem pleasant
Death Match is not for the faint of heart or weak of mind. You've been warned.
⏱️ Time Controls
Choose your preferred method of time-based panic:
• Bullet (1 min) - For masochists and caffeine addicts
• Blitz (3-5 min) - Quick losses for busy people
• Rapid (10-15 min) - Standard suffering duration
• Classical (30+ min) - Extended psychological warfare
• Marathon (60+ min) - For when you really want to commit to failure
🎨 Features That Will Amaze and Disappoint
• Visual Chess Board - See your defeat in glorious detail
• Real-time Chat - Receive encouragement like "gg ez" and "are you even trying?"
• Leaderboards - Admire the players who are everything you'll never be
• Reconnection Support - Return to your suffering after brief respites
• Checkmate Visualization - See exactly how you lost (educational!)
🎭 Social Features
• Mood buffs for victories (rare but treasured)
• Mood debuffs for defeats (frequent and devastating)
• Social interactions between players
• Relationship changes based on game outcomes
• Perfect excuse for colonists to avoid actual work
☕ Support the Madness
Running servers costs money, and apparently maintaining a chess mod requires more caffeine than should be humanly possible. If you enjoy watching your colonists suffer intellectually as much as physically, consider supporting development and server costs:

Your donation helps keep the servers running and the developer caffeinated enough to fix the bugs you'll inevitably find.

📜 Final Words
RimChess brings the ancient art of strategic thinking to your chaotic colony management sim. Whether you're a chess grandmaster or someone who thinks "castling" is a medieval building technique, this mod offers entertainment, education, and existential dread in equal measure.
Remember: In RimWorld, you're fighting for survival. In RimChess, you're fighting for dignity. Good luck with both.
