The Orca Rescue Model 8 Helicopter was designed to be a larger helicopter for solo missions, but operations with a larger crew makes things easier.
The helicopter is a multi-role rescue helicopter, with an array of features such as:
- rescue hoist and stretcher that can be lowered from the rear cargo doors
- 4 under body winches for lifting cargo, small boats, or salvage operations
- IR camera for search and rescue operations
- Radar system for finding lost boats
- An autopilot to make long distance travel easier
- Thermostat controlled heaters (No Air Conditioning)
This helicopter is capable of carrying 2 loaded containers one way from the arctic zone to the main land, and still have enough loitering time to find more fuel. Arctic to Industrial/South area is not recommended, though it is likely possible. Without the cargo, the helicopter is more than capable of going between the arctic and Industrial zones.
Range: 120 km+ loiter time with full cargo load
Cruise Speed: 170 kph
Fuel Capacity: ~5000 L
Medium Engine
How to start:
enable engine and avionics master from top panel, increase throttle to ~30%, hold starter (top panel)
Engine will need about 75% throttle for full power when empty.
Note: This helicopter is still a WIP, and there may be issues with it. It is polished enough for release now. The only known issues are that some of the autopilot modes may be buggy (wing leveler, lateral/forward/backward position holding)
Auto Pilot works well for holding a course, altitude hold, and cruise hold.
The lateral and forward/back position hold modes work as well to some degree, but work better with a course applied so the helicopter holds a heading as well.
For solo operation, you can stand on the stretcher and use the remote to control the hoist for sea rescues. Make sure to enable the altitude hold when doing this.
