- Fate: Retired and sold for scrap in 1923
== General Specifications ==
- Forward cargo hold
- Boiler system: 1 firebox, 2 boilers
- Turbine engine room with 2 steam turbines
- Dynamo engine room with 2 steam dynamos
- Condenser room housing 4 condensers
- Auxiliary & main water tanks (2 each)
- Dedicated bilge pump room
- Aft workspace and storage area
Most compartments are equipped with emergency ladders for quick vertical access between decks.
- Maximum Speed: 18 knots
- Anchors: Dual (port and starboard)
- Compatibility: Fully operable in both singleplayer and multiplayer modes via bridge and engine room telegraphs
== Operational Quirks ==
The Carl Boston’s power system features both main and auxiliary dynamos. As with real-world steamships, this system comes with unique challenges:
- Main dynamos require steam to function. If stopped, ship lighting gradually fades until complete blackout.
- Flooding in the dynamo engine room will short-circuit the dynamos, resulting in immediate power loss.
- Auxiliary dynamos (located on the boat deck in a separate housing) can supply emergency power, but are insufficient to sustain boiler pumps long-term. It is recommended to disable boiler pumps when relying on auxiliary power.
- The auxiliary dynamo housing is also vulnerable to flooding, which will cause its own power loss.
== Starting Procedures ==
Singleplayer
- On the bridge, activate the “Singleplayer” switches on both telegraphs.
- Set telegraphs to desired engine order.
- In the boiler room, ignite the firebox and enable boiler heat transfer using the two switches beside the ignition.
- In the dynamo engine room, set both throttles (center of compartment) to maximum.
- Once boilers reach 100°C, steam will be available and propulsion systems will engage.
Multiplayer
- In the turbine engine room, set telegraphs to desired engine order.
- In the boiler room, ignite the firebox and enable boiler heat transfer using the two switches beside the ignition.
- In the dynamo engine room, set both throttles (center of compartment) to maximum.
- Once boilers reach 100°C, propulsion systems will be ready.
