Roebuck's Rimworld Ribbons

Are you tired of your experienced and battle-hardened pawns having nothing to show for victories aside from a few scars and missing limbs? Do you have a pawn that has saved the colony's hide on multiple occasions but no one seems to care? Do your other colonists have no respect for combat veterans and pick social fights with them, despite their accomplishments, because they a lil ugly? Well look no further!

Roebuck's Rimworld Ribbons adds multiple ribbons and medals that can be crafted at a dedicated station and then awarded to your pawns!

**What's New?**

Users of the previous version will notice lots of big changes in this most recent update.

Namely, medals are no longer stored in inventory. Now, when selecting a pawn, right click a ribbon and select "Add Ribbon to Rack". The medal will be added to the pawn's "virtual ribbon rack". This should be a big improvement; you'll no longer need to run any inventory mods and don't have to worry about pawns dropping ribbons on the ground when downed. The virtual rack will also now automatically update the medal with the correct number of devices to show multiple awards of the same type, meaning you don't have to dig through a million recipes to find the specific ribbon configuration you need. Due to size constraints, medals with either oakleaf or star devices will stack up to 14 awards, before a new ribbon will be started. Numeral devices should stack up to 100. When looking at a pawn's ribbon rack, you can right-click a medal to remove a single award or all awards of that type.

Pawns will now also receive a minor mood buff when awarded medals. Likewise, they'll receive a temporary mood hit when you strip medals from them.

Another big change is the addition of 11 Campaign Medals! These can have both their name and description changed by the player, by selecting the medal in the world and pressing the associated gizmo at the bottom of the screen. All medals of that type will then have their name and description automatically updated. So you can now issue out these customized awards for members who have participated in battles or operations unique to your colony.

Features

  • Medal Making research option to unlock medals and crafting station
  • Craftable ribbons and medals
  • Automatically adds devices to ribbons to denote multiple awards of the same type
  • Stackable recognition: pawns that are highly decorated gain increased social opinion from others
  • Dedicated 'Medals' tab to view a pawn’s current ribbon rack at a glance
  • Player-customizable campaign medals to show participation in specific wars or battles

Compatibility

My current mod list is just shy of 100 and I haven't had any compatibility issues. But there are over 50,000 mods on Steam alone. So if you're experiencing issues with your current stack, drop a comment or start a discussion and I'll see if it's something I can remedy.

Combat Extended is always in my mod list, so yeah, dude, it's CE compatible.

Known Issues

Right now, when updating a Campaign Medal's name or description, the new name and description will only show when displayed in the pawn's ribbon rack. Campaign Medals in the world will still just show the generic "Campaign Medal" name when selected in the world. To my knowledge, there's no way to fix this without using Harmony or Hugslib, and I've been doing my best to keep this mod dependency-free. I'm going to keep looking into it to see if there's a vanilla-friendly solution. I personally don't notice it at all when playing, but if enough people have an issue with it, I'll look at adding a harmony patch or something.

Could this be unbalanced? Well, sure. There's nothing stopping you from just crafting the 'Medal of Honor' equivalent medal and issuing it to all you pawns for a +30 relation boost across the board. But this is an **RP mod first and foremost**, so use your best judgement.

Important Update Note for Existing Saves

If you're upgrading from the previous version, any older ribbons with pre-attached devices that are still being carried in pawn inventory should not be added directly to the new virtual ribbon rack.

These legacy ribbons were intentionally left in the game so players can easily reference what awards a pawn had prior to updating.

To migrate cleanly:

  • Check the old ribbon in the pawn’s inventory
  • Craft the equivalent number of new ribbons/medals
  • Add the newly crafted awards to the virtual ribbon rack
  • Drop and destroy the old legacy ribbon item

Attempting to add old device-based inventory ribbons directly into the new rack system may cause incorrect stacking behavior.

Recommended Mods to Stack

  • Combat Extended makes combat more deadly which has an added benefit of making medals hard-won, and therefore more distinguished.
  • Non Uno Pinata isn't required anymore to keep your pawns from throwing their ribbon rack all over the floor anytime they're downed, since the ribbons are stored virtually now. Nonetheless it's a great mod you should try
  • The Museums mod adds display cases that you can use to display the medals earned by pawns that have been killed in action.
  • Any other mods that make combat injuries less survivable (I like More Injuries, personally). Just makes a pawn with a fat stack of ribbons that much more impressive.

Upcoming Features

  • Full sized medals for each award
  • Ceremonies for awarding important medals to pawns
  • Visible racks or medals on the pawns is in the works, but it may not be possible without a lot of reworking.

Other Stuff

This mod is built off of GayJ's now defunct "Simple Medals 1.3" mod, albeit HEAVILY modified and enhanced. While the graphics have been updated, new medals have been added, and new mechanics written from scratch, this mod still would likely not have been possible without his initial hard work all those years ago. He's been added as a contributor, but I can't find any of his information to link to on here. So if you're reading this and you're GayJ, drop a message and I'll link to you.

Any issues or anything else, just leave a message and I'll see what I can do!
