F/V Lauren

Note: This was made for Alistair's Got Crabs? Build Challenge (GCBC) The Lauren bridges the gap between commercial and recreational crab fishing, offering substantial quality-of-life features for a solo operator or small crew and enabling a more enjoyable extended stay in your favorite coastal areas of the Sawyer Isles. Instructions: Starting: 1. Go to the pilothouse, captain's chair, adjust seat as needed via right arm rest controls 2. Battery master switch on (located top left of the control panel) 3. Engine ignition switch on (located on top right of the control panel) Basic maneuvering: 1. You can use the throttle lever on the chair to set a consistent speed. 2. [w]/[s] allows momentary throttle, while arrow keys provide thruster functions. 3. [Spacebar] shifts into reverse - ensure speed is low before shifting Deploying crab pots: Note1: Ensure sea depth is less than 40 meters. There is a depth indicator both on the crane panel and helm control panel. Note2: Additional crab pots are stowed on deck via Mag All, these can be toggled via the buttons marked in orange paint. 1. Winch a pot up off the deck a little and extend the boom, then select crane preset position 2. 2. Once the pot is over the water and clear of the deck, simply grab the rope in hand from the winch, thus letting the pot deploy. 3. Wait about 5 to 10 seconds for the crab pot to reach the sea floor, then attach your rope to the white side of a buoy. 4. Detach and stow the buoy's retention rope from the red side. 5. Physically move the buoy off the deck into the water. You can use the handles to assist Recovering crab pots: 1. Maneuver the boat slowly up to a buoy but don't worry if you can't position it perfectly 2. Go to the work deck and use the remote control if necessary to maneuver the boat near the buoy; both the remote and controller frequency must be set to channel 8 on the right side keypad (NOTE: return to a different channel after use since channel 8 overrides other controls). Controlling the boat with the remote takes practice, and also note that 1 and 2 keys are toggles in the remote, so if you use them to pivot, be ready for that behavior 3. Grab an unused rope from the deck and attach it from the top of the buoy to the winch 4. Winch up all the way so that the bottom of the buoy is easily accessible, then grab the rope from the bottom side of the buoy 5. Attach the rope temporarily to a rope anchor on the deck 6. Stow the buoy in the storage area and attach it to the retaining anchors 7. Go back to the rope on the deck and attach it to the winch, then raise the winch all the way up to bring the crab pot above deck level 8. Select crane preset position #1 with the button located at the bottom of the crane panel. Once the pot is over the hoppers, fine tune the centering as needed with the boom extend/retract button. 9. Ensure there is 1-2 block space between the pot and the hoppers. To release the crabs, simply grab the handle on the top of the pot and wait until it is empty. Selling crabs at a fish market gantry: 1. Maneuver to a position under the gantry preferably with the port side of the boat facing the dock. 2. Set the gantry frequency to 3077 via the keypad on the left side of the crane control panel 3. wasd controls the gantry's up, down, left and right movement, while pressing [1] will toggle on the gantry's vacuum. 4. If the boat position needs to be adjusted for more precise gantry access to the hoppers, use the remote on channel 8 as described above in step 2 of "Recovering crab pots" Refueling: Port side of the deck near the outside pilot house you'll see two fuel ports marked in red. Either can be used to refuel. Note that the remote can also be used for fuel gantries or any gantry which is compatible with remote control - gantry frequencies are typically 4 digits and painted on the base.
