[WIP] Marine Nationale - La Fayette (FL-3000) Class Frigate (Shell and Basic Systems ONLY)

La Fayette-Class Frigate The La Fayette-class frigates are a series of stealth frigates operated by the French Navy (Marine Nationale), designed primarily for surface warfare, intelligence gathering, and low-intensity operations. Developed by DCNS (now Naval Group), the class marked a major leap in naval design when first introduced in the 1990s, featuring pioneering stealth characteristics that influenced modern warship architecture worldwide. Design and Capabilities The La Fayette class was among the first warships in the world to employ radar cross-section reduction technologies, achieved through clean superstructure lines, composite materials, and radar-absorbent coatings. The frigates displace around 3,600 tonnes and measure 125 meters in length. Their modular design allows for easy upgrades and adaptations for export variants. Propulsion and Performance Powered by a CODAD (Combined Diesel and Diesel) propulsion system, the ships reach speeds of up to 25 knots and have a range exceeding 7,000 nautical miles, making them well-suited for extended overseas deployments and patrols. Armament and Sensors Originally configured for multi-role operations in low- to medium-threat environments, the La Fayette class carries: A 100 mm naval gun, Crotale CN2 surface-to-air missiles, Exocet MM40 anti-ship missiles, Torpedo launchers, And facilities for a Panther or NH90 helicopter. The class’s Senit combat management system integrates its weapon and sensor suites, providing effective situational awareness and engagement capabilities. Modernization In the 2020s, the French Navy initiated a mid-life upgrade program for several ships of the class, enhancing their anti-submarine warfare, sensor systems, and combat management capabilities to extend their operational relevance until the arrival of the new FDI (Frégate de Défense et d’Intervention) class. Operational Service La Fayette-class frigates have participated in a wide range of missions, from counter-piracy and counter-terrorism patrols to humanitarian assistance and intelligence operations. Their stealth and endurance make them ideal for expeditionary and presence missions, particularly in overseas territories and strategic maritime zones. Export Success The La Fayette design has been the basis for several export variants, including: Formidable-class (Singapore) Kang Ding-class (Taiwan) Al Riyadh-class (Saudi Arabia) Each customized to meet specific operational requirements.
