DSC Class Shunter "2272 Tranz Rail Blue"

Description: This is a faithful recreation of a New Zealand Railways workhorse, the DSC Class Shunter. History: The NZR DSC class is a heavy shunting locomotive used throughout New Zealand. The class was built in seven batches, the first 18 locomotives being built by British Thomson-Houston of the United Kingdom, with the remainder being built by New Zealand Railways. The class is widely used in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, mainly for heavy yard shunting, although some members of the class have been used for local mainline shunting services. Out of the 70 members of the class, 29 are in active service, three are being overhauled at the Hutt Workshops, two are preserved, one at Mainline Steam Plimmerton, the other at the Waitara Railway Preservation Society, and the rest have been scrapped. "2272" was built at the NZR's Addington Workshops and entered service in August 1963. It worked mainly in the North Island and wore it's Tranz Rail Blue livery for the duration of its service life. It was unfortunately scrapped in the later months of 1989.
