The Lady Megan is a 19-metre catamaran fisheries patrol vessel operated by the Welsh Government to patrol Welsh waters, enforce fishing laws, and protect the Welsh fishing industry. Built by Mainstay Marine, it is a robust and versatile vessel equipped with a tender launch system, a pot hauler, and a deck crane. The vessel was commissioned as part of a new fleet to replace older vessels and named after the late Lady Megan Arvon Lloyd George, the first female Member of Parliament for a Welsh constituency.
The aft working deck of Lady Megan is the epicenter of this functionality, featuring a hydraulically operated tender launch and recovery system, capable of launching and retrieving a 5m RIB while the vessel is in motion The main deck also houses a pot hauler, deck stores and a deck crane for unloading large items including towing.
The Vessel has toilet and shower rooms two lower deck cabins, whilst the captain’s cabin is located on the main deck. The main cabin also features 3 individual forward-facing seats, a fully-kitted galley, settee, shower room and wet room/workshop.
The Vessel is fitted with three safety gates one starboard and port hand plus one to access the control bridge
Plus a fully Evacuation Alarm system and auto evacuation which opens all Deck gates
The upper deck wheelhouse features excellent 360 degree visibility.
The Vessel is fitted with an Auto throttle system so no need to us the W &S key simply move the throttle past 20 and then fire up both engines the vessel will immediately move then increase to desired speed if reverse is needed move throttle past -16 the engines will stop then move to down and fire both engines and the it will go into reverse this system has been also installed in the safety Rib.
The Vessel has an auto pilot system choose a waypoint from the map and input into the large keypad the waypoint will be saved then press the AP Button (autopilot) and the vessel will auto navigate to its chosen position.
Fitted with fully functioning RADAR, SONAR, LIDDR systems and a Fish finder.
For rescue purposes there is a Transponder device and two small spot lights with a large spotlight on the roof of the control bridge.
Purpose: To enforce fisheries and marine laws in Welsh waters, combat illegal fishing, and ensure the sustainable management of fish stocks also the rescue of other vessels in dangerous situations.
