1:4 Scale S.S. 'Californian' 1902

This is a 1:4 scale recreation of the S.S. ' Californian ' of 1901! She was a cargo-liner for the Leyland Line, a stand-alone ship and worked on the Atlantic, she is famous for her involvement in the sinking of the ' Titanic ' on April 15th, 1912. ----------------------------------------------------- DIMENSIONS [IN GAME] Length - 31.50m Width - 6.25m Height - 13.00m Speed - 14-KTS ----------------------------------------------------- FEATURES - Full Lighting - Automated Reversing Gear - Animated Crankshaft - Crows Nest, Corridor, Main Staircase, Dining Saloon, Wireless Room, Engine Room, Cargo Hold, Viewable via monitor in Control Room - Whistle - Fog Whistle - Bell - Morse Lamps - Realistic Wake System ----------------------------------------------------- For realistic weather conditions, i recommend not going above 60% waves. I do recommend Inf Elec be used but it is not required, though the battery will drain overtime. ----------------------------------------------------- HOW TO ENTER Spawn the ship from any workbench and get onboard, theres an entrance hatch in the cargo hatch between the superstructure island and the poop deck that takes you into the Control Room, after, just throttle her up using 'W', the throttle is sticky so you dont need to hold it and just hold S until the throttle goes into the '-' to reverse. ----------------------------------------------------- LORE The S.S. 'Californian' was a British freighter of the Leyland Line, founded in 1873. Californian was ordered and laid down sometime in 1900 at the Caledon Shipbuilding & Engineering Company yard in Dundee, Scotland, being the largest ship ever built in Dundee at the time as she was built to the largest possible size to moor and fit her in the town's harbour. Due to her sheer size and importance to the Dundee Shipbuilding Community she sparked a rather large local interest as her hull slowly took shape, not to say there weren't problems; such as her boilers damaging roads and underground pipes and a mast spar severing some telephone lines, luckily these were the only major mishaps and on January 30th, 1902, the ship was completed, departing on her maiden voyage a day later, sailing from Dundee to New Orleans, then conducting several transatlantic crossings, she was also chartered by the Dominion Line for a period. On April 5th, 1912, the liner departed the Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool, enroute to Boston with only crew aboard. Her captain on this voyage was skipper Stanley Lord, he couldn't have known the unfortunate fame his ship was about to earn. On April 14th, around 18:30 ship's time, the liner's wireless operator Cyril F. Evans radioed an ice warning to the S.S. 'Antillean' which was also picked up by the new liner 'Titanic', later, around 23:07, Evans was ordered by Captain Lord to transmit an ice warning to any surrounding ships as the Californian had been stopped by lord due to an icefield, Evans did this but as Titanic was the only one close by, he wired to Titanic; "MGY this is MWL we are stopped and surrounded by ice.", on which Titanic told them to quote 'Stop Transmitting', as Evans was about to clock off anyway, he turned off the wireless set around 11:09 and went to bed not long after. Through the rest of the 14th and into the 15th, her crew reported seeing flares, lights and morse lamp signals from a steamer around 10-15 miles off, though they seemed strange so the ship stood still, it was only that morning when they learned via wireless that, to their horror, they'd just witnessed the Titanic go down in real time, following this discovery Lord ordered the ship to steam for Titanic's position to see if there was anything they could do, though the R.M.S. 'Carpathia' had already finished up and so Californian continued to America. Upon arrival in Boston, Captain Lord alongside several other senior crew members were summoned to the American Enquiry into the Sinking of the Titanic, where they gave testimony as well as in the British Enquiry afterword, Lord in particular was criticised for his inconsistent and conflicting testimonies though no charges were ever filed against him and far later in 1992 it was noted that due to the ice field, Californian likely couldn't have made it in time before Titanic would have gone down entirely. The ship continued her normal service afterword until 1915 when she was requisitioned by the Admiralty, redesignated as His Majesty's Transport Californian, she carried troops and supplies to the Gallipoli Campaign. at 07:45 AM on November 9th, 1915, a torpedo wake was spotted fired by U-34 and it was baring down on the ship and it was already far too late to avoid it, the torpedo detonated amidships and quickly started to flood the 3rd & 4th hold and the Boiler & Engine room. Her skipper, now a William Masters, believed the ship wouldn't sink though he did order the boats prepared, indeed he was correct and the ship stayed afloat, though deep in the water. The French torpedo boat that had been escorting her attempted to tow her however the line broke and, while attempting again, U-35 torpedoed her. Amazingly, the Californian still stayed afloat though her crew did abandon ship to the torpedo boat which then proceeded to Malta, Captain Masters still believed she was saveable if they could tow her to Malta though she was denyed as a 'Hazard of Navigation' and so, the boat was ordered to go back to her and sink the ship. Finally, 34 hours later, two salvos and two torpedos later, the Californian, the ship that stood still, rolled onto her starboard side and sank bow first, the only death of the entire ordeal was Fireman Richard J. Harding. Her wreck is undiscovered in some 13,000 ft of water, likely on its side and possibly in a similar condition to that of the Carpathia or Britannic wrecks. ----------------------------------------------------- PRODUCTION NOTES - I started building this in early October. - I built this for the 110th anniversary of Californian's sinking on November 9th, 1915. - A scuttle was planned but was ultimately removed as it was badly inaccurate. - The Codename was 'Hull No. 10'. - This model is the first workshop model of the Californian in Stormworks history. ----------------------------------------------------- CREDITS + All XML, Credit to Kahrstrom https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2470434925 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copyright and Use + DO NOT CLAIM THIS AS YOUR OWN.
