Sometime in the 1870s, she was converted into a cargo ship and was sold to the J H Jones & Co. Whether she had other owners or other names during her career is unknown. On September 20, 1877, the Lloyd departed Fishguard for Copenhagen, and after reaching Copenhagen on the 25th, the Lloyd was loaded with Flour, Sugar, and Starch bound for Wilmington, NC. On the 26th, she left Copenhagen for Wilmington and was sighted again while batting rough waves around 1000 miles off the Eastern Seaboard. After that, she was never seen again. No trace of the ship was ever found, and it was presumed she foundered in what was called "Hurricane 4," which was the 4th and the worst storm of the 1877 Atlantic Hurricane season, which sank and grounded numerous other ships. An anomaly was found on the ocean floor in 1976, believed to be the wreck of a small iron-hulled vessel; however, it is still unknown whether it is the Lloyd or not. She was lost under the command of Captain K Larcen with 7 other men onboard whose names are known only to God.
