CLICK HERE! NOW WITH FUNCTIONAL MESSENGER PIGEONS Messenger pigeons can carry messages to distant factions, providing a reliable alternative to caravans or comms consoles. This is a useful backup for requesting military aid during solar flares and is perfect for themed tribal or medieval playthroughs. Also includes a new species, the selectively-bred Messenger Pigeon. Must have Odyssey DLC to utilize the messenger pigeon function. Check out the video in the thumbnails section for more info! Bring doves to your colony as pets and prey! Domesticated and wild doves and pigeons offer a low-maintenance food source or peaceful pets for your colony. These calm birds with gentle cooing are a tranquil presence in aviaries or indoors. While they breed quickly and can be messy, their utility and calming nature make them a valuable addition to any settlement. Some wilder species will wander off if not properly penned. Aren't these just pigeons? Doves and pigeons are biologically the same, both part of the Columbidae family. The names are linguistic, with "dove" often referring to smaller birds and "pigeon" to larger ones. They are highly adaptable birds found in most biomes, including urban areas. Their affectionate nature can boost colonist moods. Credits The original inspiration for this mod was Kestrel's wonderful BIRD UP mods. Those mods were picked up by others, consolidated and currently handled by Tyrannidae - check it out here. Thanks much to Tyrannidae for helping me puzzle out some problems as I make these mods! The messenger ability is C# code by Lee, reach out to him on the Rimworld Mod Market discord for your coding needs! A special nod to my Green Cheek Conure, Mouse, for making me want to include him in the game and sparking this whole mod-making adventure. RIP buddy, I miss you so much. Mod Notes Includes support for popular biome mods. Please contact me if you would like me to add yours. Should be compatible with pretty much anything (let me know any issues so I can do my best to fix). NOT CE COMPATIBLE. I hate writing code but I asked on the CE Discord for them to write a patch. I'll update this if it happens. Some species are fully domesticated and can be zone limited and trained to follow; Some species are still fully wild and must be penned, and have no trainability but can be raised for resources. I highly recommend something like Camera+ to zoom in on and enjoy the birbs. I'm an artist, not a coder I hire coders for my code work beyond basic XML. Feel free to donate if you want to help me offset those costs, or if you just like my mods. If/when I reach a point where donations equal what I paid for code work, I will remove this link - I'm not trying to make money, just break even.
