The Dead Man's Switch_Close combat mech
Background Setting:
On the other side of the galaxy, beyond the star clusters, there exists a world with rapidly advancing technology, currently in a transitional stage between the Mid-Realm and the Shining Phase. On its core planet lives a bizarre mechanic, whose name has been lost to history. It is estimated that he lived during a period when his society began to exhibit a large number of instabilities. In the middle of his career, he designed a substantial number of police-type mechs, many with extreme appearances and unclear functionalities. Obviously, a peaceful world moving towards the Shining Phase could not accept these violent monsters. These mechs were not adopted or produced at the time; they were almost entirely unmarketable products. Fortunately, the designer had a habit of assigning traceable specialized terms to his designs, allowing us to infer the intended purpose of each mech. So, who really knows which world the 'Athenian' refers to?
An unidentified colonial fleet eventually discovered this world. Its core planet had fallen into civil war, and its civilization had significantly declined. Several military factions built almost planet-covering, crude but functional permanent fortifications, and cities continuously plagued by unrest, hunger, and riots within these fortifications. During subsequent ground infiltration, the design drafts of these mechs were accidentally acquired. Their stubborn creator had used exaggerated data preservation methods, allowing these designs to survive through time. The fleet’s engineers selected some of the more practical designs for trial production, simultaneously selling them to the conflicting factions on this planet and deploying them in related ground combat, suppression, and riot control operations.
