M25 Chaffield
History
Introduced in 1944, the M25 Chaffield served as the U.S. Army’s primary light tank through the final years of the Alaskan Campaign, the Pacific island offensives, and well into the immediate post-war period. It remained in frontline service until the arrival of the M4Y41 light tank family in the 1950s.
Designed around mobility and practicality, the Chaffield proved to be one of the most flexible vehicles of its generation. Its M4 75mm anti-tank gun offered respectable firepower against most Japanese armour of the mid-war period, while the extensive machine-gun suite — two hull-mounted and coaxial 7.62mm guns, plus a turret-top .50 calibre — made it highly effective in infantry-support and reconnaissance roles.
Light weight and simple construction allowed the Chaffield to operate in terrain that bogged down larger tanks. Crews could deploy it to narrow jungle paths, soft volcanic sand, or hastily repaired mountain roads with far fewer risks than heavier vehicles. Its armour was modest but well-shaped, capable of defeating sustained heavy machine-gun fire, though not designed to withstand true anti-tank weapons.
Ease of production was a defining strength. American factories produced roughly 7,000 units, supplying not only U.S. forces but several Allied militaries as well. Its reliability, straightforward maintenance, and forgiving handling made it a favourite of reconnaissance units, marine detachments, and expeditionary forces fighting across the Dutch East Indies, New Guinea, the Solomons, and beyond.

About the Project
The Pacific Front is a Alternate History Project about the time from 1940s through to the 70s in a time of turmoil, war and desperation. It focuses on the countries around the pacific ocean, like the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, China and a lot more. All the the project vehicles are fictional in nature and have their own story, lore and design. The Projects creations have a tendency for high fidelity, decoration and multi crew operation.
