It saw service with every Japanese Army branch capable of fielding armor, including the notorious Eccelsian Church militias. The Ro Ta is built around overwhelming firepower: a powerful 100 mm Type 8 naval-pattern gun forms the core of its armament, backed by a coaxially-mounted 45 mm Type 14 anti-tank gun for close-range follow-up shots. This is reinforced by a pair of 13.7 mm heavy machine guns fixed in the mantlet, giving the turret frontal arc an extraordinary density of fire. The hull carries an additional MG for the radio operator, while the commander controls a hatch-mounted MG for upper-arc defense. Against infantry and fortifications, the Ro Ta is nothing short of a moving bunker, capable of shredding assaults and denying avenues of approach. These strengths came at very real costs. Mobility was poor even by heavy-tank standards, and the vehicle’s complex construction kept production slow—only around 800 were manufactured. Many Ro Tas broke down under their own weight or due to insufficient maintenance, and these disabled examples were studied extensively by U.S. and Australian forces, influencing their own emerging heavy-tank programs. Yet despite its flaws, the Ro Ta became one of the most dreaded obstacles on the road to Tokyo. Entire American armored spearheads were lost in frontal attempts to dislodge entrenched Ro Ta positions, which often required combined arms coordination, air strikes, or heavy artillery to break. Even in defeat, the Type 05 carved out a reputation as one of the most formidable and costly opponents faced in the closing years of the Pacific conflict. About the Project The Pacific Front is a Alternate History Project about the time from 1940s through to the 70s in a time of turmoil, war and desperation. It focuses on the countries around the pacific ocean, like the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, China and a lot more. All the the project vehicles are fictional in nature and have their own story, lore and design. The Projects creations have a tendency for high fidelity, decoration and multi crew operation.
