Amphibious, compact, and .30-calibre proof, it proved ideal for both the outback’s brutal terrain and dense urban areas. With over 4,000 units produced, the AVV became a common workhorse not only for troop movement but also as a platform for a wide variety of light weapons — everything from machine guns to recoilless rifles and ATGMs. Its versatility and small logistical footprint made it appealing for reconnaissance units, rapid-response detachments, and gendarmerie forces. Beyond its combat role, the AVV was frequently adapted into specialised forms: command vehicles, radio nodes, forward observer platforms and even ambulance variants. Its simple amphibious drive allowed infantry to ford rivers and coastal shallows without engineering support.
