DESCRIPTION
The Toiler Class Salvage Tugs are a trio (Toiler, Urgent and Grapple) of purpose built combat salvage tugs. The class is normally used to recover downed fighters, retrieve missiles, perform shallow water submarine rescue and tow disabled vessels.
Built by Hewlett Pipe Works and Foundry, the ships come equipped with a 50 ton heavy lift derrick, two 8 ton cranes, and a small 5 ton crane forward of the bridge, as well as a RHIB to assist in salvage work and two 2 ton flotation balloons to assist in lifting heavier loads. In addition to working equipment the ship is also fitted with a Falkner DP system to maintain position without having to anchor.
Power and propulsion comes from a Kharstrom KO-I-5I300/A driving a diesel electric drive providing 5,000 SHP, a top speed of 13 knots, and a static bollard pull in excess of 70 tons.
