What remains of the moon orbits the planet in tens of millions of chunks, slowly falling through the planet's atmosphere. Tradeships still risk a visit here, but they now often fall victim to the wildly varied orbital paths of the moon's remnants. On the bright side, there are no more eclipses!
What blew the moon apart? Was it on purpose, or merely some horrible accident? Perhaps an archotech's experiment gone wrong? Or right? The inhabitants of this world will likely never know.
