Frequently Asked Questions
Mod Identity
Q: Why is it called "Consensual Incest" instead of just "Incest"?
The term "incest" often carries heavy associations with abuse, especially involving minors. This mod is strictly about relationships between consenting adults. The name makes that distinction clear.
Q: Does this mod allow incest between minors, rape, grooming or abuse of any kind?
No. Absolutely not. This mod does not enable any kind of relationship involving minors, non-consensual acts, or abuse - incestuous or otherwise. This mod only affects consensual adult relationships between family members. Nothing else.
Q: Why no penalties for incest?
This mod is designed as a positive, stigma-free alternative to how RimWorld normally treats consensual incest. Since these relationships aren't wrong, pawns have no reason to feel guilt or shame. If you want a mod that punishes incestuous couples, this isn't it.
Q: Why not add a "Forbidden" or "Disapproved" precept for player colonies?
Adding mechanics to forbid relationships that the mod is designed to support would contradict its core purpose. This mod isn't called "Allow Incest But With An Off Switch" or "Allow Incest But Keep The Shame." If you want those, look elsewhere.
Q: Why change the vanilla Inbred gene?
The vanilla Inbred gene is scientifically inaccurate, exaggerated and overly punitive (80% chance, major stat penalties). Real-world genetics research shows that first-generation children from related parents are usually born healthy, with only mild increased risks.
This mod's version is more realistic in both its likelihood and its effects.
Setup and Compatibility
Q: Is this mod safe to add to existing saves?
Yes. Core features activate immediately and will not disrupt your colony. Optional features are disabled by default.
Q: Can I safely remove this mod mid-game?
Yes for core features, but if you're using advanced features, use "Prepare for Mod Removal" button in settings first, then remove mod. This converts custom genes to vanilla equivalents and prevents save corruption.
Q: Will this mod work with alien races?
Yes. The mod uses a universal check for humanlike races, so it works with most modded alien species.
Q: Does this mod impact performance?
No. It's lightweight and optimized. Relationship checks are cached, and generation tracking uses efficient algorithms.
Advanced Features
Q: What's the difference between Basic and Advanced Profiles?

Basic Profile: Enables romantic relationships between family members using the vanilla Romance button. Removes all opinion and mood penalties. Slightly increases natural romance chances (25% vs vanilla's 3%). No bloodline genes, precepts, or gameplay modifiers.

Advanced Profile: All Basic Profile features plus bloodline genes, ideology precepts, lore themes, meditation modifiers, birth notifications, and mood effects - all individually configurable.
Q: What relationship types can I configure?

Without Ideology DLC (mod settings):
Parent/Child
Siblings
Grandparent/Grandchild
Aunt/Uncle - Niece/Nephew

With Ideology DLC (kinship preference precepts):
Nuclear kinship: Siblings and Parent/Child
Extended kinship: Cousins, Aunt/Uncle - Niece/Nephew, Grandparent/Grandchild
Peer kinship: Siblings and Cousins
Hierarchical kinship: Parent/Child, Grandparent/Grandchild, Aunt/Uncle - Niece/Nephew
Q: What is the difference between Fixed and Generational gene inheritance modes?

Fixed: 10% chance for both Inbred and Strong Blood genes regardless of generation. Mild gene effects that don't scale with generation.

Generational: Inbred gene chance increases each generation: 10% → 40% → 70%. Strong Blood gene stays at 10% chance. Both gene types gain stronger positive/negative effects as generations progress. Maximum of 3 tracked generations.
Q: Can pawns have multiple bloodline genes?
No. Bloodline genes are mutually exclusive - pawns can only carry one at a time. When a new gene is added, it replaces the existing one.
Q: How does generation tracking work exactly?
The mod tracks bloodline depth across generations and regardless of whether pawns have a specific bloodline gene or not.

If two unrelated pawns have a child, that child is Generation 0 (normal vanilla behavior).

If two related pawns have a child, that child is Generation 1 (and potentially but not necessarily, born with Inbred gene or Strong Blood gene).

If that child then has a child with another relative, that child is Generation 2 (potentially born with Inbred gene (Gen2) or Strong Blood gene (Gen2)).

If that 2nd generation child then has a child with another relative, that child is Generation 3 (potentially born with Inbred gene (Gen3) or Strong Blood gene (Gen3)).
Note: This only applies in Generational gene inheritance mode. If set to Fixed, or if both bloodline gene variants are disabled, there is no generation tracking.
Q: How does this mod change royal title inheritance from VIE - Memes?
Optionally, this mod overrides the default "firstborn" succession from VIE - Memes. Instead, the royal title is inherited by the child with the strongest bloodline.
This succession logic only activates if all of the following conditions are met:

You have the Royalty and Ideology DLCs and the VIE - Memes mod installed

You have enabled "strongest bloodline title succession" in this mod's settings

The title holder's ideology has the Titles: Inherited precept (e.g. from the Royal meme)

The title holder has at least one child with the Strong Blood gene
