Il Griso - Freshwater Passenger Ferry
LABORATORIO AERONAVALE del MONTE di BRIANZA
Overview
Lore
Il Griso (Bravi Class) is a freshwater passenger carrier designed to operate on the lake of Como for Società Navigazione Lariana (SNL) and launched in the late '90s, about 5,000€ over budget per unit.
The class takes namesakes from the novel I Promessi Sposi by Alessandro Manzoni, specifically from the Notorious henchmen (Bravi) of the local Spanish Governor.
The class underwent a significant scope creep after the Italian East Coast Maritime Bureau manifested interest for a small coastal tourist boat. Roll stabilisation fins were retrofitted by mistakes on all the lake boats,
making them slightly overengineered in the calm water of the Lario. LAMB managed to sell export variants to transport companies or services operating around Sawyer and Meier, where river navigation is sometimes alternated with open seas sailing.
In game
Il Griso is another starter base boat with a non-starter price. It is intended for ferry afficionados and those who still play with Stormlink Add-on. It has good range, an interesting top speed nearing 30 kts, thermostatic heating for the passengers (but not the helmsman, which should equip the arctic vest stowed below deck for trips in the North. Overal, it is an unremarkable boat as missions or campaign are considered, but I did try to push a little on the details (like the still untested working intercom)
Instructions
Starting the Boat
- jump on the boat and enter the cockpit (top superstructure)
- flip all 3 breakers on the right (Main - Engine - Bridge)
- man the helm and either activate each key button, or hold 1 to activate them both
- watch the RPM climb above 120, then the boat is on
Piloting the Boat
- A/D steer the rudder
- W/S command the main throttle telegraph: 5 positions forward, 4 positions backwards
- Left/Right Arrow keys control differential throttle for tight space maneuvers
- number 2 activates stern magnets for improved docking
- number 3 toggles bridge lights (on by default)
- number 4 toggles deck lights
- number 5 mutes all alarms
- number 6 switches Heading Hold On/Off (to change course, switch off, steer manually, switch back on)
- Spacebar operates two-tone foghorn (hold)
The engines run hot, but should not overheat in any condition; there is a very loud alarm if and engine surpasses 112°C. In that case, throttle back a notch.
