[lmgginspace] The Ability - Multiversal character framework
WARNING: This mod is in a quite early ALPHA stage. Expect bugs, and use it with caution!
ALSO: You need to subscribe to character packs, this mod does little otherwise!
In short, "The Ability" is a framework that enables the user create and load custom characters from special XML defs in the game. The author (me) has always loved to create characters from TV series, films, video games... In RimWorld, and make custom challenge runs with them. So, he made this tool to ease the hassle of creating pawns with the desired appearance and traits.
This mod also adds some new buildings and game mechanics on top of that. The excuse to add characters from other media is that they can be brought to the Rim from parallel universes. And so, the required technology is also provided here.

When this framework is loaded, every generated pawn will have a small chance to obtain "The Ability" hediff. The chance is pretty small, based on the pawn's intellectual skill, and you can adjust it in the mod settings. You can also set up filters to narrow down potential owners by sex, traits, or xenotypes, so you can find the perfect fit for your own story.
So, be sure to check out every merchant, guest, or even raider, because you never know when someone with "The Ability" may show up! Even if you are not planning to build parachronic equipment, they are more than excellent builders, crafters, and most of all, researchers!

These two marvelous devices can be built by anyone, but they are only a scientific curiosity. Okay, it is interesting to be able to project a photon here or an electron there, but in practice... Well, just useless devices.
However... If you could convince someone with "The Ability" to adjust and tune these devices, the potential of what you could do is pretty much endless. Virtually unlimited resources, energy, people... What an incredible power to have!
But hold on! You still need the following two devices to actually do something useful:

The first one is just an interface, so anyone can build and use it (those uncapable of intellectual tasks remain so, though). You can start searches for universes or characters, or order the projection of the latter.
The latter are special batteries designed for projection purposes, and as such, they cannot power anything in your colony as regular batteries can. A total of 150 Wd per kilogram of projected matter has to be supplied in every projection process (adjustable in the mod settings).

Okay, I know it is a lot of text... In short, just follow these steps:

The first is some sort of encyclopedia (or "character-dex", one may say ^^) that enables the player to see how many characters have been discovered, seen, projected or recruited into the colony, along with all of their info, such as what universe the character comes from, what are the best skills, etc.
The latter is an advanced version of the cryptosleep casket, one which can store eight people in a reduced space. You can store characters there and make a great collection without taking a lot of space if you want ("gotta abduct 'em all", one may also say ^^).

Yes! A new button has been added in the starting pawns window that enables you to select any loaded character as a starting one, saving you the hassle of building parachronic thingies or using dev mode.

Character packs
This mod is a framework, quite lacking just by itself. To enjoy it to the fullest, you should also load character packs. These should be loaded after this mod.
Here is a list of character packs I found interesting so far:

My sample characters
Future features

Integrate "Ideology" into characters.

Transport persons already in the RimWorld planet to your position.

Search for uninhabited universes that are rich in some resource (plasteel, gold...) and project these to your colony.

Search for collapsing universes to create powerful inverse entropy energy sources.

Search for alternate versions of a colonist, or dead relatives/friends that are alive in alternate realities.
