Mitsubishi S16R-T2MPTK Industrial/Marine Diesel
Mitsubishi S16R-T2MPTK
Engine Overview
The S16R-T2MPTK is a high-output, 16-cylinder V-type diesel engine manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). Designed specifically for heavy-duty marine propulsion and auxiliary power, it utilizes a 65.37-liter displacement to deliver massive torque and reliable power under extreme conditions.

Operational Ratings (Duty Cycles)
The performance of the S16R depends on the selected rating, which dictates the engine's load profile and lifespan:
UCD (Unrestricted Continuous Duty)
Optimized for 100% constant load for unlimited hours per year. This rating provides the highest durability but the lowest peak horsepower. Used for heavy-duty ocean-going vessels. 1676hp @ 1600RPM.
HD (Heavy Duty)
Designed for applications requiring high power for long durations (approx. 3,000–5,000 hours/year). Suitable for tugs, bottom trawlers, and deep-sea ferries. 1851hp @ 1650RPM.
MD (Medium Duty)
Offers the highest power output for shorter bursts. Full-load operation is restricted by time (e.g., 4 hours out of 12). Ideal for patrol craft and high-speed commercial vessels. 2159hp @ 1800RPM.
Key Features

Cooling System: The "TK" designation confirms a sea water-cooled intercooler, maximizing air density for combustion in marine environments.

Maintenance Layout: Individual cylinder heads and large inspection covers for simplified top-end overhauls.

Emission Control: Compliant with major marine classification societies (IMO Tier II / Tier III depending on configuration).
