Lore
TCC = Trivella per Carbone a Carbone --> Coal [powered] coal drill
The Polifemo, named after the one-eyed giant who tried to kill Ulysses (and was ultimately blinded with a pointed stick), is a coal mining machine capable of self-refuelling from the mined ore, if it happens to be coal.
The machine is imposing in size, 2 stories high, with a bright yellow funnel and a towering winch anchor point above the cabin, with one of the 4 cameras inside an eye artwork. It has even a bed to sleep in on the right side!
While the idea of a mining machine powered by the same matter it's mining is sound, workers soon found out that driving a giant tank that bellows black bituminous smoke inside and enclosed space was not the brightest of ideas, and to add insult to injury the cabin is not even air tight. The scuba gear found inside many operating models is the proof of how the burden of worker safety is often on the workers themselves.
That being said, the machine can mine 30 pieces of coal at the expense of only 1 from its reservoir. Got spare lungs at the office? Mine away!
It can also transport a UNICON container on a foldable ramp, or hte ever reliable LAMB Saltamartino [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3633395435] service vehicle (that can let the operator abandon the mine quickly and without smoke).
In Game
Luckily for us, there is no coal dust poisoning in Stormworks: so take it from Dreimor, drive it up the mountain, and mine away! If you play alone, don't forget to spwan and load the LAMB Saltamartino service vehicle, to help you get back to Dreimor and get the lorry to evacuate coal from the mine. See the complete procedure in the Collection page [https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3631472959].
Instructions
Sounds Simple, then complicated, then simple again
Controls
- W/S for throttle and "brakes": tank track wheels only have parking brake, so I added and hid normal wheels on the same transmission, but it's clearly not effective: just use parking brake.
- A/D for steering while moving (either forward or backwards)
- Left/Right arrow keys for differential reverse gear: allows you to spin in place, useful for tight spaces: press the arrow for the direction you want, then W
- num 1 to toggle parking brake
- num 2 to engage reverse
- num 3 to dump coal into a transport
- num 4 to toggle spotlights
- num 5 to switch camera (scope is over the seat)
- Breaker on bottom left of steering wheel to connect batteries to systems
- Key button just above to fire up the firebox
- Instrument panel to the left with arrow buttons to change set firebox temperature (136°C is ideal)
- Key button overhead behind the seat to engage forced circulation: remember to switch it off when the turbine takes over, or it will drain the battery.
- Breaker overhed to switch on/off "deck" lights
- Kewy button to the right of the driver's seat to enable self-refuel
- Up/Down arrow keys to lower/raise drill arm
- Spacebar to engage drill clutch
Raise slightly the drill while driving, or it may embed in the ground and wreck the machine
More
- In case of flat batteries, the firebox has a bypass manual valve; open that, wait, then you're good.
- The controls for the ramp are at the rear; one toggle button for unfolding, two Independent push buttons to lower/raise
- Key button on the ramp to disconnect vehicle (if carried vehicle does not have disconnect controls)
Operators Beware!!!
When drill is engaged, the steam turbine spools down, from 2000 to 280 RPM. This is normal, and will also help for precision movement down in the mines.
