Light Cruiser USS Kansas City (CL-59) 1948
USS Kansas City is a fictional WWII-era light cruiser of the US Navy. The design is essentially a downscaled Baltimore class cruiser, armed with 9 rapid-fire 6-inch guns capable of putting out a combined 180 shells per minute. When paired with a secondary battery of 12x 75mm autocannons and aimed using the same accurate fire-control system as on my other ships, this cruiser can absolutely shred other surface warships very quickly. Meanwhile, the automatic damage control system can keep moderate flooding at bay for a good while, giving you time to make repairs. It has a full interior, which I tried to keep at a healthy balance of detail and PC performance. This camouflage is based on the early Cold War USN pattern: Haze Gray with an unpainted deck, large hull number, and identifying marks on the turret tops.
This one took a long time and more than a couple headaches, lol. I hope you enjoy, and please consider pressing like!

How to use
(It's honestly very intuitive so you can skip this if you want)
Movement

To start the engines, either go to the boiler rooms and turn the “ignition” keys on both boilers, or use the Remote Boiler Start buttons found in the bridge and Combat Information Center. You don’t need to do anything else, but you can adjust the power output with the throttle found on each boiler if you choose at any time. You can also enable “Flank Speed” at any helm, which maxxes out the power output of both engines.

The ship can be controlled from the open bridge, main bridge, C.I.C., or the emergency helm station at the stern.

Weapons

To fire the guns, head to the C.I.C. and sit at the fire control station. Activate either the forward or aft gun director, and you can then pan the camera around with the WASD keys. It is in radar-aimed mode by default, but you can switch to a line-of-sight mode if you want to hit ground targets or if the radar is being weird.

Select which weapons you want to use with the panel on the left, and make sure to turn on their autoloaders as well. The active turrets will automatically follow your gun director, and will also calculate lead when you lock onto a target with the 1 key. Use spacebar or the key button to your left to fire!

In radar mode, you can press 4 for Trim Mode (Adjusts your hit point on the target with WASD, letting you pick out specific parts to destroy)

You can use the keyboards to your right to fire at specific map points, and “Indirect Fire” mode means the guns will try to arc the shells high up into the air to hit things from a vertical angle. Both these features are pretty niche tbh, I don’t often use them.

All the other controls and features are pretty self-explanatory. Each main and secondary turret can also be controlled locally by grabbing the control handle and pressing 1 to toggle local control.

Damage Control

In the middle part of the ship, you will find Damage Control Central. This room has lots of supplies, mute keys for the alarms, the manual override for the stabilizer, and most importantly a map of where flooding has been detected on board. There are also indicators for any critical systems or weapons that have detected damage.

When new flooding or systems damage is detected, alarms will sound briefly. If the automatic pumps can’t keep up with the flooding after a while, the alarm will start to sound constantly to let you know something needs repairs badly. Focus on keeping pumps working, because the air-in and water-out pumps can keep up with a surprising amount of damage!
